How do you prepare for Hajj?

Hajj is the spiritual journey for Muslims. Better preparation for Hajj makes your Hajj journey hassle-free.

Spiritual preparation

For spiritual preparation, you must renew your intention, only for the pleasure of Allah Almighty. It is important, as the reward of your spiritual journey depends on your intention. Spiritual preparation involves these acts:

  • Seek forgiveness: You must seek forgiveness from those you have hurt. 
  • Clear all debts: make sure all of your debts are clear.
  • Knowledge about the Hajj rituals: Pilgrims must know about the steps and the importance of Hajj for the correct performance of these steps.

Physical preparation

You must be physically fit for the rituals of hajj. In Hajj, you have to walk 15-20 km per day in 40-degree temperatures. For physical fitness, follow these steps:

  • Start exercising regularly to build stamina. 
  • Pilgrims should be on up-to-date vaccinations.

Packing preparation

Necessary documents for the Hajj journey

  • Passport (validity 6 months).
  • Passport-sized photos.
  • Vouchers for hotel rooms.
  • Certificate of vaccine (covid-19, meningitis). Or according to your country.
  • Visa papers for Hajj.

Budget preparation

Keep some extra currency. Prepare a budget for food, pick-and-drop service and any emergency items.

Hajji’s clothes-packing

Men's Essentials

Sets of Ihram. Some light clothing for after the Hajj rituals (in cotton or in wool fabric), sandals that do not cover the whole foot and light slippers for normal use. Pack personal items such as sunblock for sun protection, an umbrella, a small fan, a shaving kit and scissors for Halq and Taqsir.

Women's Essentials

2 or 3 abayas for Hajj rituals or simple cloths, 5 or 6 hijabs, scarves, casual wear dresses, easy-to-walk slippers and a pair of socks. She should keep sun protection cream, hand sanitiser, wet wipes, shampoo, soap, hand wash and scissors.

Communication gadgets

Universal adapter, power bank, small tablet and AirPods.

First Aid Kit

Keep painkillers, cough syrup, anti-diarrhoeal and anti-constipation medicine, bandages for wounds, antiseptic patches and multivitamins in a first aid kit.
