Niyah is the Arabic word which means Intention. “It means purpose for something. Niyah for Umrah means the intention to perform all the rituals of Umrah.

Significance of Niyah

It is Sunnah of our beloved Prophet (PBUH). It shows someone's intention for Umrah, and it is important to make an intention in your heart or by making Dua.

According to Hadith:

Actions are judged by intention, and everyone will be rewarded according to their intention.

(Sahih Bukhari and Sahih Muslim)

This is how important it is to make Niyyah for Umrah, so every pilgrim makes intention with a clean heart and mind.

Background of niyah

It started to be implemented when the Quraysh of Makkah worshipped for worldly purposes, for praise. The hadith occurred about intention when people used to do hijrah for their own purpose, not sincerely for the pleasure of Allah Almighty. According to this hadith, our beloved Prophet (PBUH) said to people, if you are doing any worship and Hijrah, do it for Allah Almighty, not for your own desire.

Niyah for Umrah in Arabic

Translation:

“I intend to perform Umrah and enter into Ihram for it and for the sake of Allah.”

Niyah for rituals of umrah

Before wearing the Ihram, recite this Niyah.

Labbyka allahumma umrah

Translation:

“Here I am, O Allah, to perform umrah.”

Dua in the Masjid al Haram

Allahumma Aftah Li Abwaba Rahmatika

“O Allah, open the doors of your mercy for me.”

Tawaf Niyyah

“O Allah, I perform tawaf of Umrah to please You. Make it easy for me and accept it from me.”

Sa’i

You can recite this Dua,

“O Allah, I perform Sai between Safa and Marwah to seek Your pleasure and obedience.”

Dua after completing the Umrah

“O Allah, accept from us and forgive us and have mercy upon us.”
